Brooke Ann-Coco

Brooke Ann-Coco is a cultural anthropologist and data scientist with an interest in the intersection between hierarchies of power, identity construction, and technology. Her past research illustrates how media technologies are utilized within power structures to not only manipulate widespread notions of national inclusion, but also obscure nationwide divisions to maintain political, economic, and social control. Her current interests are focused on the extent to which digital technologies replicate older forms of media to re-enforce power hierarchies and structural inequalities. Her research aims to empirically examine how decentralized communities socially produce theories of governance and operationalize them into digital infrastructures and algorithmic protocols.
