Gemma is a Vice Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Fellow. Her research explores the media representations and everyday “mundane” experiences of people affected by disasters, particularly in Latin America. She draws on development geography, social anthropology, postcolonial studies and media sociology in her work. She regularly collaborates with artists to communicate her research in creative, engaging and socially responsible ways. She is an editor for the Journal of Humanitarian Affairs.
