Yuyan (Monica) Tang

Monica Tang is currently a Higher Degree by Research student in the School of Media and Communication at RMIT. She is a traditional Chinese instrument musician (Guzheng) and piano performer. Monica completed her B. A (music performance) at the Sichuan Conservatory of Music (Chengdu, China), and B.A (Honors) at the University of Melbourne.


Monica’s research interests focus on ethnomusicology/musicology, from a different angle – music gender/politics/social/culture/ethnic groups/nationalism – to explore the questions or social phenomenon in music. Furthermore, her interest in how to examine feminism from different music styles, such as opera or mainstream music in contemporary, through collecting both qualitative and quantitative data and various fieldwork as her research method.


Also, from 2018 to now, Monica as a professional Guzheng performer in Chao Feng Chinese Orchestra in Melbourne.
