From 16 October to 6 November, DERC Research Fellow Shanti Sumartojo is a Visiting Fellow at the Laboratoire d’Études et de Recherche sur le Monde Anglophone, a research centre at Aix-Marseille Université (AMU) in France. Her project there, entitled ‘state commemoration in a digital world’, will include two research seminars – on memorial atmospheres and on digital ethnography and memory sites – as well as new collaborative research on French commemorative sites with AMU colleagues. The visit is enabled by a mobility grant from the Fondation Aix-Marseille Université.

We investigate how people experience the digital in everyday life, By researching from the ground up we bring fresh insight to a constantly changing world. The Digital Ethnography Research Centre DERC focuses on understanding a contemporary world where digital and mobile technologies are increasingly inextricable from the environments and relationships in which everyday life plays out. DERC excels in both academic scholarship and in our applied work with external partners from industry and other sectors.
